One of the most important goals of our blog is to discover and present to you travel tips and services! A travel service that we discovered recently in the center of Athens is The lockers Athens!

The Lockers Athens is an automated lugagge short term storage service, located in one of the most central points of Athens, in a very beautiful and aesthetically modern space, where you can safely store personal items, travel luggage and anything else that is weighing you while you are in the city centre!

How does it work?

Select among the lockers and pay only for the first hour using your debit or credit card, or cash*

Keep the receipt with the unique code; you will need it to collect your luggage

Collect your luggage simply by typing the code on your receipt

Opening hours 08.00 am to 22.00 pm

To whom is it addressed to?

To travelers who want to leave their luggage safely.

To those who went for shopping and there are no any hands free left to carry more bags.

To those who travel for business meetings and want to leave any unnecessary baggage.

To those who are on the run all day and want to get extra clothes for the night.

To transit travellers who want to keep only their memories.

To you and to what may be your burden.

1.Accessibility: Always talking about the center you need nothing but a pair of sneakers and in one day you’ve been all over town. If you are, of course, a fan of cycling, you can rent a bike and enjoy your walk on the beach. If you’re tired again, we have a solution. The bus line 50 takes you to a quick tour of the city’s attractions with brief stops and information.

2. Multiculturalism: Undoubtedly one of the European capitals of Erasmus with a strong youthful character, and attracts people of all ages from all over the world who choose to stay in one of the hospitable hostels of the city. The long history engraved in the corners of the city (eg port, Jewish community, etc) is waiting for you to discover it.

This article about Russia has something special, something different and something unique… It has been written with love by a friend and traveler who recently joined the group of Nonstoptravellers! Meet Sakis and his travel story:

Russia the Emperor Land

This article began as a joke with Olga to whom I said she has no right to make a promotion in her previous article about a trip to Moscow because of her half russian origin!

Why don’t you write an article, then;> “was her answer. I never back to a challenge, so… here i am!

Although “The term life journey” is one of the most common in terms when describing travel, it is not easy to think of something more precise for Russia. With an area far more bigger than the whole of Europe and history which has set the course of the world RussiA is an unforgettable experience for every traveller!

Moscow Russia bridgetomoscow.com

The legend named Moscow Third Rome, since the niece of Constantine Palaiologos married there after the fall of the city (the title of the Tsar is in fact the title of Caesar in Russian language and the eagle on the Russian flag is rooted in Byzantine double-headed eagle.). Arriving in Moscow what makes the first impression is the size. Everything is HUGE! The tails of cars, the volume of buildings and especially, the wealth of museums but also the palaces and the characteristic churches with the golden domes. Cadillac and Bugatti on Tberskagia Street, but also homeless outside of the Rolex Boutique a few straits below. The only thing that is certain is that the country is appropriate for social reflection.

The first shock… The Red Square

You’ll never forget the moment you walk through the gate of the Red Square. It’s true like getting into a fairy tale where the buildings are marshmallows. Facing three of the most beautiful buildings you’ll ever see in your life.

A warm coffee or a sweet in Gum, the largest department store located in the square is imposed as a walk afterwards as the center is extremely impressive.

The basics

Let’s face something in a low voice. Europeans with travel education often end up returning from museum to museum simply because they have nothing better to do or because we have badly planned our travel time. In Moscow this practice will simply lead you to wander around waiting for endless queues and controls (airport type) consuming an infinite time which they could devote to more interesting activities. So we present the most interesting and original museums that one can see.

Diamond Museum: One of a kind!

Space Museum: Remember that the Russians first conquered space and in Moscow Yuri Gagarin is a national hero.

Pushkin Museum

Lenin Mausoleum: You agree or not with his ideas belonged to the personalities who changed the world. The spectacle is staggering!

The Good stuff!

The surprises in Moscow never end. The city is immense and the only thing that limits you to its beautiful is your time and budget since the city is one of the most expensive in the world. With a good division of the two, you’re overlapped.

Moscow Russia bakeryandsnacks.com

Ritz Carlton-Red Square

It is really worth ride on the terrace of the Ritz for a coffee to see the breathtaking view of the Red Square. What will keep you there forever is the view of the seven “brothers”, the seven imposing buildings that Stalin built to symbolize the foundations on which a state must step.

Cafe Pushkin

My favorite! The Pushkin Café dates back to 1999 and is something you should not miss while you are in Moscow. Some people compare it to Cafe Greco in Rome. Only it is much better!! The Russian cuisine is mixed with the French producing wonderful dishes (and sweets, try them!) but most importantly: Tsarist Russia revives before your eyes! Waiters with proepanastatikes Russian uniforms, pocket watches and some with the typical sideburns (!!) of the season put you 200 years behind.

Russian Ballet

If you’ve seen the Black Swan that gave Natalie Portman the ¨ Oscar now get ready to see it and live as you are in the birthplace of this art. The ballet was the entertainment of the Tsarist courtyard and there are many interesting stories among the dancers to gain the favor of the czars, but also to rise in the hierarchy, (for example the placement of broken glasses in the ballet of Prima Ballerina). Although you can enjoy the ballet and in St. Petersburg, the Bolshoi Theatre is located in Moscow. Book your tickets early as the prices can be extremely high and try to see it as a new experience as it looks nothing like anything you may have seen in Europe. (such as opera or Musical). I’m sure you’ll remember forever.

Red Square Street Food

Those who love street food, and know that we are many, do not forget to try the street food you serve in the Red Square. There are several shops with their own tables where you can sit right after the museum tour. The street food is basically grilled meat (chicken and lamb) neat or in sandwiches and also some special burger. They are delicious and really worth a try.

Always remember that the world is like a book. And those you dont travel only read the same one page!

We wait for your experiences and (всегда путешествие)!

This was the experience of Sakis from his trip to Moscow, it was his own narrative and his own travel story!

A trip to the controversial Russia, the largest country in the world, is something that for many seems distant, difficult, dangerous but at the same time charming and exciting! What happens to this aristocratic country that has experienced times of power and wealth on the one hand and poverty and isolation on the other? What has the modern history of Russia left for its capital, Moscow?

We combined the journey to Moscow with the one to St. Petersburg for which we will write you of course a next article (impossible to fit them both in just a few lines), but in the case you can only visit Moscow, lets find out more. The trip to Moscow is so much easier than you can imagine! First of all, Russia is a large European country and is indeed very close to Greece. In recent years access is very easy and affordable!

How and when to travel to Moscow

In Moscow you will arrive by air from Athens, Thessaloniki, Kavala and why not from Sofia airport! Airline tickets can found on average at about €150 but for economy enthusiasts you can travel through Bulgaria even with €30 return tickets trip (as long as you keep track of the airline offers often). It goes without saying that in the winter months tickets are cheaper but we do not recommend winter trip because you will not be able to enjoy the beauties of Moscow at-40 points! Prefer months such as May or September. But always keep in mind that even then there will be enough cold.

What you can do and what to see in Moscow

The most striking point of Moscow is none other than the magnificent Red Square! It is a huge square that emits power thanks to its deep red color. At the same square stands the fairytale Cathedral of St. Basil the most famous temple of Russian Orthodox tradition. Moving on to the square you will visit the Kremlin, which has been the centre of Russian political power for several centuries and has been a centre of Soviet power once! In the same square you will visit Lenin’s mausoleum and the huge, luxurious Gkoym department store. In this area we will recommend other places of interest, gardens, squares, the Bolshoi etc. There’s just so much to write that it simply doesn’t fit in a single article! We will tell you how to visit the Moscow Space Museum as well!

What to eat

The food is also a huge chapter and here we can help you since we have a personal opinion because of the half origin of Olga! We reemphasize that all food even in restaurants in central places is very very cheap! You will definitely try Piroshki in various variants with potato, cheese, egg etc., Barenika with potato or minced meat, pelmeni (tortellini) and Soups! Our beloved one is called Borsch and you will find it with less than €1 in all the restaurants in Moscow! It goes without saying that there are known fast food chains but of course… The decision is yours! Coffee and even a cup of tea in Russia can be found everywhere even in outdoor vehicles! In the streets you will corn that is a favorite dietary habit-delicacy of the Russians, and you will see them enjoying it in the many parks you will meet as you exploring the the city! Finally do not forget to try vodka! Authentic Russian and of course very cheap vodka!

Transportation

Ah, here we are talking about an entire history, an underground museum that reaches 18 floors below the earth. We refer of course to the Moscow Metro which is one of the oldest metro in the world and has one of the largest networks worldwide. You may have heard the quiz? What is the largest and cheapest museum in Moscow? And yes, it’s the subway! The Moscow metro will just love it! It has infinite stops, it is very fast, almost every 1 minute comes a train, it is very very economical, has Internet (well read… It has internet 18 floors under the earth) and you can spend endless hours from station to station as it is an underground museum full of history and art! Statues, paintings, mosaics and countless exhibits suggesting the greatness that this city once lived!

Stay – accommodation

Staying in Moscow as strange as it may seem is too cheap, at least for European citizens it certainly is. Russia’s currency of ruble has deteriorated quite a bit in recent years, resulting in a loss of power over strong currencies like euro! Searching through the known platforms we use and we have written to you in our previous article, you will find both hotels and cheap apartments around the center at very good prices! Do not be afraid of distances if you find cheaper accommodation because you will be moving with the incredibly economical metro of Moscow, fearlessly and especially quickly throughout the city and its surroundings!

What to buy as a souvenir

Matrioskes! The famous dolls that are enclosed in each other, are typical examples of Russian folk art!

Cost of travel for one week?

We’ll tell you in the next article along with the trip to St. Petersburg, keep in mind that the price will surprise you… Positively!

SNFCC or Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is the new “must visit” place in Athens! Amazing project overall, great architecture, plenty of green spots to relax and more many things to do.

A new gem in the city of Athens (on the edge of Faliro Bay) opened its doors in 2016 in order to promote education and culture. SNFCC includes new facilities for the National Library of Greece, the Greek National Opera and the 210,000 m² Stavros Niarchos Park.

What to do?

The SNFCC Visitors Center offers to the public the opportunity to see the worksite up close and learn about the technical details of the construction and the project, as well as the SNFCC’s mission. Visitors can enjoy a variety of events of all kinds on a daily basis:

You can rent a bike and do cycling around the park, details can be found here.

Free guided tours take place inside the state-of-the-art building complex set to house the new premises for the National Library of Greece, the Greek National Opera as well as the interior and exterior public space surrounding the buildings.

You can participate in one of the plenty of events that take place there.

Definitely a place to be regardless if you visit it by yourself or with the whole family and friends! Not to miss, preferably during sunset or early in the morning

Xanthi is a city full of folklore tradition! It is my (Olga) beloved hometown! The old town of Xanthi is a true gem with all those the paved alleys and the architectural blend of traditional houses supported by wood or old brick merchant mansions. Xanthi is also known as the city of the thousands colors and the lady of the Thrace and became well known worldwide due to its famous tobacco!

Downtown tour

Among the old tradition, the modern city spots where the youth and not only gathers, the muslim area, next to the river Kosinthos and the Democritus University, there are plenty of rides for walks. Xanthi is a city, the buildings of which still testify its past.

You can start your walk from the central square with the old clock: you will discover the Municipal Market, the neighborhood with the impressive complex of smokestacks that was made by craftsmen from Epirus and Macedonia, and the multicultural open market set up in a parking area in the city center.

Monastery of Panagia Archangeliotissa. Folklore Museum, Municipal art gallery, museum of natural history, Archaeological Museum of Avdira, Macedonian tomb Kalyves castle makes your visit more adventurous!

If you want to combine your trip with excursions to Nestos river and Rodopi mountain, prefer the spring, the summer and the autumn.

The Old Town Festival of Xanthi is the second great institution in Xanthi after the Thracian Folk Festival. It was organized for the first time in 1991 and since then it taking place every year in the first week of September. During this week in the the so-called “Old Town”, the streets are full of the cultural and carnival clubs which offer food, drink and great music. Dont miss it!

Local cuisine

Local cuisine reflects the cultural mosaic of Xanthi (Greeks, Turks, Pomaks, Roma, Asia Minorities, Armenians, Pontians, Cappadocians). Kebabs of all kinds, pumpkins with spices, lamb with yufkades (long noodles) etc. Famous for its sweets too, from chocolate kariocas, nugas, authentic oriental pastries full of fresh butter and soujuk loukoum will please your senses!

Why do Greek people say… like Halkidiki nowhere?

Only those who have already visited Halkidiki know! For those who still…have not visited this place, we are here to get to know it better! From the secrets of Kassandra to the nature of Sithonia….

Χαλκιδική Xalkidiki Chalkidiki pellabeach.com ο

For nature lovers-Sithonia

At the east side of Sithonia there are Vourvourou, Diaporos, Kavourotripes only some from the most beautiful places in Halkidiki. Beautiful beaches, blue waters, countless organized and quite luxurious cmpsites, shady plane trees, pines, caravans and beaches! This is the east side of the second leg of Halkidiki and we’re going to see and western now… There we will find super fresh fish in Porto Koufo and we ll take the chance to climb the Parthenon a beautiful and picturesque mountainous village at the mountain Itamos!

Cassandra and “her” secrets

We now are going to pass to the first leg of our beloved Halkidiki, an area a little more touristic and full of summer bars and clubs with people and all the students of Thessaloniki and not only! Surely the image of overcrowding beaches and tavernas its not something we love to see when we wander around, but such beautiful places are impossible not to attract more and more tourists each year! We will choose to mention the Afitos, the lagoon of Glarokavos and the… Magical Akrotiri Possidi with the characteristic lighthouse (for those who know the magical sunrise at Akrotiri is not comparable to any exotic place!)! Also look for the Nea Fokea Tower and the Sani Tower.

Xalkidiki chalkidiki poseidi Χαλκιδική ποσειδι poseidivillas.com και

Other places of interest in Halkidiki

Petralona Cave

Barbara Falls

Ierissos

Ammouliani

Agia Paraskevi Thermal Bath

In our opinion the best way to enjoy all the places we suggested even if its for a little time, is with a great one week road trip at least! Halkidiki is like a cluster of many small islands each of which is special and we love it for a different reason!

Indulge in the hospitality of northern Greece and put Halkidiki in your next plans and bucketlists!

Are you travelling in Greece and staying for a few days in Athens? If the answer is yes, then we have the best proposal for a short one day getaway from Athens, while exploring three wonderful islands of Saronic gulf without having to pay a fortune!!

Our proposal? One day cruise to Saronic Gulf (Hydra, Poros, Aegina islands)! We chose the travel agency Signature travel for the tickets and we can say with absolute certainty that it is the best value for money gateaway from Athens! We love it for its picturesqueness and its trademark the beautiful cute little donkeys that welcome you at the port! How did we pass our time there? In the two hours we had at our disposal we started our tour at Hydroneta! Favorite spot for diving into the blue sea and take some unique photos! We had a cup coffee at the cafe Papagalosa and then we headed to the colourful port and got lost in the beautiful narrow valleys of the island. Somewhere between the straits we met some more donkeys, the historical pharmacy that has its origins in 1890 and the bakery of the port where you can find great pastries! In the port we do not missed to visit the shop of Elena Votsi, who designed the Olympic medal of 2004, from where we bought some souvenirs! Finally, we passed a quick visit to the Historic Museum of Hydra and we relaxed to enjoy the view from the monument of Andreas Miaoulis!

Second stop: Poros

Poros is a quiet island, peaceful, without strange exaggerations, ideal for the most romantic ones! We love it for its neoclassical clock that dominates the rock at Chora and stands out from the very first moment the boat enters the bay and of course for its green color as it is an island full of pines and trees. How did we pass our time there? In about one hour we had the opportunity to take a romantic walk through the beautiful narrow streets of Chora, to take some photos at the squares of Iroon (Heroes), Karamanou and Koryzi and to enjoy greek mezes with tsipouro (trust us and order these!) in front of the incredible sea view!

Third stop: Aegina

Aegina island, was the first capital of Greece (after the Revolution of 1821) and we love it for its history, the fresh fish and of course the “fruit” of the island which are the yummy pistachios. How did we pass our time there? In Aegina we were able to stay for two hours so as the boat arrived, we disembarked and ran for a swim in Avra beach (the closest one)! Then we started a walk in the beloved narrow valleys! Colorful streets, blooming flowers, hospitable locals are just a few of the elements of the beautiful Aegina that make us visit it every year! Arriving at the Metropolis church of the island we returned from the port side this time so that we could enjoy both the boats from the one side of the street and the horse wagons as well on the other! Before our final departure we did not missed to try ice cream with flavor of what else? Pistachios! Wonderful and refreshing!

At around 20.00 in the afternoon…

The one-day getaway to the Saronic Gulf has comes to an end, the staff of the ship greeted us with smiles and kindness and we returned home from a day full of dreamy images with a feeling that we had just returned from a whole week excursion! We highly recommend the one-day cruise with Signature travel, and even though we travel as a couple, we have to admit that this excursion is very family friendly, i.e. ideal for families who travel with children!
