Santa Monica is a wonderful city facing the Pacific Ocean, in western California with a glorious golden beach, thousands of swimmers, cyclists and skaters. An area that has been selected to promote best practices when it comes to sustainable travel, the use of alternative transportation such as bikes, in order to avoid environmental damage, and significantly reduce traffic (Shared Mobility pilot program in Santa Monica)! We were very lucky to have the opportunity to experience this philosophy ourselves by enjoying a four hour bike ride around Santa Monica Beach and the chance to meet the amazing team of The Bike Center in Santa Monica!

We chose The Bike Center in Santa Monica, the perfect place for the lovers of cycling, for their years of experience and values in promoting a culture of sustainable environmentally friendly means of transportation such as bikes!

At the entrance of the Bike Center, two wonderful bicycles with the necessary equipment (helmets and locks) were waiting for us! That’s where we met four amazing people, the Bike Center team! Meet sweet Sandie, the most adventurous Sandra, eager-to-help Iggy and of course Ron the owner of the Bike Center in Santa Monica, who was rather helpful, friendly and willing to show us around The Bike Center, and share his ideas and values of using the bike as a part of our daily life! After having explored the Bike Center, they explained to us that their moto “Why not take the bike, instead of the car?” is more than just a moto, it’s a way of thinking and living!

They are actively participating in the transformation of Santa Monica into a community of bicycle travelling both for the tourists and the locals. They positively see the prevalence of cycling in the future offering, not only unforgettable cycling rides, but tours as well! The main aim of The Bike Center is to establish the use of bikes in everyone’s mind, whether it is for a tourist who wants to enjoy the wonderful beach through an interesting cycling experience, or for the locals who commute to and from their workplace! For this reason they have prepared special facilities with safety lockers, showers and storage lockers where the personal objects of cyclists can be safely stored!

In addition to bicycle and equipment rentals, The Bike Center in Santa Monica offers various tours and cycling experiences that feature Santa Monica and Los Angeles’ main attractions, which include tours that combine food tasting experiences, segway tours and walking food tours! The Bike Center covers all the needs associated with cycling! In addition to renting and selling bicycles and equipment, they offer a number of other services. Experienced specialists are there for you to help or advice you and let you know about their bike travel programs. And of course, while you are cycling or exploring the city on foot, your luggage and personal stuff is safe in the special lockers we mentioned above!

We did not join any tours, we chose to take a bike ride instead, but we got all the necessary instructions and tips from the tour expert Sandra, a real bike enthusiast who shared with us her favorite spots to live the experience in the best possible way! The California Incline bicycle path is a wonderful place where you leave the city and its roads through a unique circular descent by bike, and you find yourself suddenly in front of an extraordinary beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean! Wonderful and indescribable view… The feeling was awesome!

The Bike Center in Santa Monica is located in a fairly accessible area, near the Pier of Santa Monica and very close to the Metro station! The team is willing and ready to help you choose and customize the right bike for you or show you around the shower facilities, so dont you worry about anything!

The thing that also characterizes this team is the moto “locals too, not just tourists” and we hope this great team can inspire both locals and travellers to use bikes because it truly stands out by building a community of unique cyclists both in Santa Monica and Los Angeles!

A wonderful experience that we highly recommend to anyone of you who is lucky enough to travel to Santa Monica! For those of you who live or work there already, no further recommendations are needed. The Bike Center in Santa Monica and its wonderful team are waiting for you in their modern and friendly Bike Center to initiate you in the world of bikes! The team is more than eager to share its secrets and tips for a more sustainable way of travel! We fully support such efforts and it is a pleasure and an honour to be able to promote such professionals to the wide travelling audience!

Many, many sincere thanks to the Bike Center of Santa Monica for their kind offer to us! The bike ride was complimentary by The Bike Center of Santa Monica but all the opinions expressed above is our personal view which was based on our personal experience of the excellent service and quality bicycles that we got from The Bike Center!

Walking in the last month of Spring … all of us pretty much begin to make plans for the summer that arrives! With the thermometer rising dangerously from day to day, we are ready for our first dives. But until you organize your summer holidays do you anticipate one (why not for more …) escapes even for a two days somewhere near Athens? For example, is it time for an excursion to the beautiful Saronic Gulf?

Surely most of you have heard about Hydra, surely some of you have already visited or plan to do so in the future. But what makes the island of Hydra so dear? What is it that makes her stand out? Let’s see together … Why in Hydra? Why…

Hydra is one of the most picturesque small Greek islands, while still remaining majestic and cosmopolitan (see Onassis, Callas, etc.)! It is no coincidence that the “Archontissa” of the Argosaronikos has been given to her!

Hydra is one of the most popular destinations given its proximity to the port of Piraeus, without losing the simplicity for which it stands! Its proximity makes it ideal for a short excursion even for a weekend!

In Hydra you can move to every corner of the island on foot! Okay, there is also a water taxi for anyone bored! To get to the last beach you will need about half an hour walking, hat, sunscreen and plenty of water! On the way do not miss to be photographed at the Red House (see Gorgones and Mages …)!

In Hydra as long as you stay on the island you will not hear a horn of a car or machine and that’s because … very simply not all kinds of wheeled vehicles are allowed! Hydra has been declared preserved!

In Hydra you will walk next to beautiful donkeys, a trademark of the harbor of Hydra and perhaps the most multi-photographed card postal of the island!

While walking around the narrow streets of the island you will discover fantastic craft shops with hand made creations and of course the store of internationally acclaimed designer Eleni Votsi who designed the Athens Olympic Medal and then decided to be her own design that will adorn the front view of all subsequent Olympic Games!

Hydra has a significant historical significance because of its great naval power during the 1821 Revolution and the role it played in its outcome. Her nautical force is taught by the Naval School that adorns the harbor! Just like the time back …

In Hydra a multitude of mansions, museums and monasteries make up a beautiful palette of colors that spreads generously in front of you when you hit your foot in the harbor, making it a unique source of inspiration for artists!

In Hydra you will swim in the blue sea overlooking its unique harbor with five minutes walk! All you have to do is lay a towel on the pier, from which you will enjoy cool dives!

Hydra hosts wonderful shops with delicious food and all budget. The more you walk, the more you discover and believe … there are small diamonds waiting to be discovered!

The rich tradition of the island and the diverse natural environment that is the paradise of the walker and the naturalist, as its mild climate favors hiking all year round! Over the course of time you will find plenty of events and events such as the mountain running race (for stronger players)!

For all of the above reasons, travelling to Hydra is a choice that does not require a special organization and panic! Besides, the summer is loading and we need to be a little more relaxed and spontaneous in our choices!

Bring a swimsuit, your smile and good mood!

Chania is a coastal town of northwestern Crete island and one of its most important ports. An endless list of monuments and sights that leave no one unmotivated … The great “difficulty” that Chania presents is that one can not easily decide where to go and what will leave “out” – for the next travelling visit of course!

A small tour – The old town of Chania

Romans, Byzantines, Saracens, Venetians, Turks passed Chania before you, creating this multicultural corner of Crete. Discover its secrets step by step. Every strain and surprise, every walk and experience. Walk to the harbor, the Venetian lighthouse of the harbor, the renbovated Megalo Arsenali, the mosque of Kuchuk Hassan Bey or Yali Jamişi, the municipal gardens, the maritime museum, the botanic park & gardens, the rocky monastery of akrotiri peninsula, Koum Kapi, and Halepa district with the neoclassical buildings that housed the Consulates of the Great Powers in the Cretan State.

Only by travelling to Chania you will – can understand why the Cretan cuisine has conquered the world sooo fast! In seafood taverns and racks, in cafes with history and famous public, the delicacy of all Crete will parade on your table. For tasting on … another level, try gourmet restaurants, where chefs have gone traditional cuisine forward, winning “Golden Scoops” and other distinctions. Enjoy local recipes of Crete such as cigarettes, bouzouki, kalitsounia, pilafi, dakos, but also excellent meat on the grill.

Beaches – attractions

Exotic beaches just 10 minutes outside of Chania, Agia Marina, Platanias, Stalos. Beaches with crystal clear green-blue waters offer moments of exhilaration: sunbeds, bars, hotels, taverns.

Falasarna and Balos, white sand on the feet, turquoise waters, sunset-magic. Endless beauty within three kilometers of one of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, north of which lies the ancient Falassarna. Feel also heavenly at the lagoon of Balos, with the most photographed beach of Crete. Relax in the shallow green and turquoise waters, observe the sand with the pink shades of the millions of broken shells. Opposite, the two islets, Gramvousa and Agria Gramvousa, form a protective ring.

Also dont forget to visit Elafonnisi beach! The colors here are amazing – the sand takes on pink hues in certain light as it is made up of tiny pieces of shells and coral, and the sea is turquoise-blue.

One of the most impressive landscapes of Chania is the Seitan limania (Seitan Ports). Sea strips penetrate between steep rocky coasts creating small coves, one of which is a well-hidden beach. Personally i loved it the most!

Hiking Samaria gorge is a must do experience while visiting Chania! The gorge of Samaria, an unforgettable experience in Crete just a few kilometers outside Chania. The Samaria Gorge – also known as “Faraggas” – gives you an unforgettable experience. It is the largest and most famous gorge of Crete.

So go ahead traveller! Chania is waiting for you!
